Christmas Cookies… ~ by Gabby Angel

I was looking at my cookie recipes last night. My recipe box is pretty well organized…So looking under the Christmas cookies section is easy. I realized how recipes I have and how many I haven’t made for years. It got me thinking of everyone liking a different sort of Christmas cookie. There are so many to choose from, also being half Italian we make different types of Italian cookies. I wonder how many people reading this do some Christmas cookie baking. I actually do know some people who buy all their Christmas cookies, they don’t want to be bothered.  For real, that’s what they do.

Doesn’t that take some of the fun out of the holidays? Well, maybe it takes some of the stress away from the holidays for them. Some people honestly don’t like to bake. Far be it from me to be judgemental, honest. Everyone has to do it their own way.

To be honest I don’t do as much baking for the holidays as I did while my husband Dave was still alive. His favorite cookies were ones with anything chocolate and peanut butter, also sugar cookies. Almost anything I baked! He was tall and thin he could pack those cookies away, too. I know my favorites are the Italian cookies and of course anything made with chocolate!

Sugar cookies, the cookie cutter kind are so much fun when you decorate them any way you choose. Back when Autumn and I were young, the younger sisters, too…We could get real wild and crazy with our decorating. Those were fun times, good memories and those innocent and simple days.

I know Autumn and I will be getting together to do some baking, hopefully Mom and some of our sisters. I need to ask you all a special favor, do any of you kind readers care to share what your favorite Christmas cookie is? Come on everyone, it will be fun don’t you think?

Just leave a comment with your favorite Christmas cookie, but only if you feel so compelled to do so. I don’t want  to seem pushy at all, since that isn’t my nature. It would be interesting to see the results, thank you for taking the time to read this. 🙂

  1. I must admit my favorite kind of cookies or the same as your late husband. I hate to share them and like them when they fresh out the oven. 🙂 I like the cookies that you have to decorate, fresh and bake as well. I even like the one’s that come around every year already made in the store shape like Christmas trees. Good post btw. God Bless U:)

    • Those are such good Christmas cookie choices PJ! 🙂 You made me laugh about not wanting to share them when they are fresh out of the oven. Thanks for reading and liking this, it means a lot to me. 🙂

    • Italian cookies, hey Im curious I might have to try them out and get back to you when I do. I better start making a side note of stuff I said I’m try and let you know once I do. Yes, call me greedy for not wanting to share. lol. I can’t help myself. I know I ate a whole thing of sugar cookies not to long ago. It was so good and I so wasn’t sharing. lol Ty for sharing with us. God Bless Ya’ll! 🙂

      • Italian cookies are so good, I bet you’d love them PJ. 🙂 You aren’t greedy for not wanting to share, it’s hard to share those cookies warm out of the oven. That is so cute, you ate a whole thing of sugar cookies. Lol, something we all have probably done! God Bless You PJ, you always bring a smile. 🙂

  2. Hi! Don’t you just love Christmas. Yes… it’s a lot of work leading up to it, but it can be so much fun! Little ones running around and trying to keep them busy, decorating, get-togethers, sending cards, getting a tree, buying gifts, sharing with others and of course… baking. Oh the smells – so yummy and they bring back so many memories. My favorites are icebox cookies (the kind you refrigerate and then slice and back) and shortbread cookies made with super fine rice flower and fruit powdered sugar and butter… to die for. I just add a piece of dried fruit or citron to the top or ice them and add red or green cherries. I shared a post with my readers today about starting Christmas traditions with cookies: http://thingsforchristmas.com/cookies-for-christmas.html Thanks for sharing!

    • I really do love Christmas, all the work that goes into it is all worth it. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by to read and also for sharing your favorite Christmas cookies. Very good choices I must say! I haven’t made icebox cookies for quite awhile, thanks for reminding me of those. 🙂

      • Hi and thanks for the reply. I was just re-reading my comment and noticed my typos… my bad. It should be slice and bake, not slice and back and it should be flour, not flower. Doesn’t pay to comment on blogs so late at night! lol

Oh and I remember some of the icebox cookies were white and chocolate combined – usually square – but they are much more work.

  3. I am just as bad as you Jane, I didn’t notice the typos either! Like you said, it is getting late here in PA, too. The white and chocolate icebox cookies sound like a lot of work, but I bet they are good! 🙂

    • I think they might be called ribbon cookies? And I’m glad you missed the typos. I try to be careful, but I overlooked those… lol I’m on the East Coast of Canada, so we’re not too far from each other. Prince Edward Island (Atlantic Time – one hour later than Eastern) is where I hang my hat.

      • Ribbon cookies, that sounds right. Jane, I am going over to to check my Mom’s recipes tomorrow! It sure sounds like ones she used to make. You are in Canada, I have never been there but I hear it’s lovely. 🙂
