I’ve been known to take this term to a whole other level at times. But, it’s OK since we are all different and we have to do it our way, right? Surely we can’t all be alike, that would make life so awfully boring! I will tell all of you kind readers a secret…Autumn marches to the beat of her own drummer, too! Did anyone really doubt that for a minute?
Anyway, I was thinking over this phrase and wondering how many people really choose to conform just to be accepted more easily. You know what I’m saying, they just don’t want to call attention to the individuality that is in each of us. Well, come on…That just isn’t good either! We all need to be ourselves and just have a joyful time of doing so is my opinion!
I have been known to dance in the rain (Autumn loves doing this herself), lead a spur of the moment parade around the block one time with a few friends (this was done with Autumn by the way who was co-leading), and the neighbors so dearly loved this one!
I sometimes sing loudly in the middle of a store by mistake. Well, this happens when I get carried away when hearing a favorite song and Autumn has also joined in or started this one all by herself. Rode our chosen merry go round horses like princesses waving to all who were watching. I know, all kids do that you may be thinking to yourselves…But this was just last week! These are just a few examples, but there’s more of course.
Oh, I almost forgot one really fun time Autumn and I crawled out on a roof to star gaze and how exciting it was, too. Until our Dad happened to notice what we were doing and hustled us back inside, we were only young teenagers and thought it was fun what can I say? Dad didn’t agree of course, since it wasn’t the wisest of moves in safety. It was better to wait until we had our houses to go stargazing on the roof, try it sometime because it’s really exciting fun.
I think I better keep it to myself about any more of the Twinnies examples of how we do have given it a whirl quite often, this marching to the beat of our very own drummer thing. Lest you kind readers start worrying about our sanity, unique ways and all. Yeah, right…Like that’s ever stopped me before! How many of you kind readers have fun and exciting things you have done when doing your own thing? Please do share, but only if you’d like to! It was just a passing thought today and I just had to write a little post about marching to the beat of our drummer. I just couldn’t resist, it seemed a pretty awesome topic to chat about. I do hope all of you have a grand time marching to the beat of your own drummer.
Please, please…Do not let anyone stop you! March on is what Autumn and I have to say! 🙂 🙂
I THINK YES 🙂 XO

Very nice post and message!
Thanks so much Wendell, that makes me happy you think so! Hugs 🙂
Hahahaha! The last time my friends took me out to have fun I was praying for the “fun” to be over. I brazenly rode the extreme swing ride at a fair and when I got off it my insides were gone. I couldn’t feel my stomach for hours…felt like my heart dropped in it. I’ll take your singing over extreme swinging any day, haha! 😀
You were so brave to be riding on those wild rides, the swing ride type is one I won’t get on and neither would Autumn! Happy to hear you eventually got straightened around after getting off the ride. We have to draw a line somewhere I do believe! I am with you on singing over extreme swinging Margaret…Don’t go getting on another one of those rides for the sake of your poor insides. You sure made me get a big smile over your description, just sing on “lady in blue”! 🙂
Gabby, not only am I marching, I am cart-wheeling and dancing all over the place in my head right now from your encouragement here. Bless you and Autumn!
Oh Granbee, what fun to hear…You are not only marching but cart-wheeling and dancing, too (In your head of course!) Glad to hear that Autumn and me could inspire you! 🙂

If we always do what others do then we will always get what others get too….
its such a lovely thought provoking post Gabby..
to be one self and live the way one just knows and wants it to be..of course safety comes first but yay to creating our own tune and dancing on it 🙂
Did you ever get it right Soma, and you said it so well, too! 🙂 Being ourselves is a good thing to aim for always, safety does come first of course…Yay indeed for creating our own tune and dancing on it! I know it’s something you will always be doing same as Autumn and me and I wish for everyone to do the same! 🙂 Hugs
I just love these Twinnies — your fun sounds like so much fun!!
Thanks so much Judith, we really do make our own kind of fun! 🙂 As we keep marching along to the beat of our own drummer, too! 🙂
Dancing, or walking in the rain, barefoot, is so liberating, isn’t it? just letting the water come down and accepting it… 🙂 I wish more people would do it!
Yes it really is Roxi, there’s nothing like dancing and walking barefoot in the rain! 🙂 I’m with you on that thought…Wishing more people would try it! 🙂
“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” – Henry David Thoreau
