Foods Of July

Here it is July already and again it’s time for those National and Celebrated Foods. Well, of course I have to deliver the news as promised, right?  Let’s get down to talking food kind readers and from what I’ve discovered, it’s all pretty good, too! 🙂 There are 8 of them in all this month, so it should be interesting for us to get down to talking food. I am happy to report the National Foods are:1. Blueberries 2. Ice Cream  3.Watermelon and 4.Hot Dogs and the Celebrated Foods are: 1. Pickles 2. Baked Beans 3. Eggplant 4. Lettuce. Does anyone see a little trend developing here, or is it just me?

There seems to be a lot of picnic type food going on and for good reason since it’s summertime and that spells Picnics! I know the lettuce and eggplant aren’t exactly in the picnic category, I think somebody was thinking gardens on those two. But they are good and you can take them on picnics if you want to, a bit out of the ordinary perhaps but there are no rules! Salads are always good anytime is my opinion and lettuce rocks! 🙂

Eggplant parmesan is so much a favorite of both Autumn and me, eggplant really does get two thumbs up from the both of us in general. I have a feeling some of you just might not share our love for this vegetable, love it or hate it…Do share! The ice cream making it in the national foods isn’t exactly picnic food, but who doesn’t  simply love ice cream? Hopefully the answer will be nobody! Please don’t tell me some of you kind readers aren’t ice cream fans, I will be disappointed and surprised. But everyone does have their own individual tastes and all, right? So, if you aren’t an ice cream lover speak right up…But do tell us why for heaven’s sake! 😉 I am so thinking of ice cream I may just have to get a small dish when I finish writing this post, I kid you not! So many flavors, so little time is what I say. 🙂

Anyway, all in all the foods for July have just been so much joy for me to share with all of you. Not really a bad one in the bunch again this month, although to be honest I don’t eat hot dogs and either does Autumn, it has to do with the not eating of most meats.

Please do give these 8 foods some thoughts and do share your opinions, likes and dislikes…It will  be fun! Catch up with me in August for the foods of that month, too because I will be here and happy to report them all. I sure hope you enjoyed reading this post and yes you guessed it…I must go for now because the ice cream in my freezer is calling my name! 😉 🙂

National Strawberry Sundae Day and More

Here we are, July 7th and it’s a day to celebrate the goodness of the strawberry sundae! 🙂 Well, that’s a lovely thing and in these hot days of summer I think we all need to have one! If you don’t like strawberries, then choose another flavor…It’s allowed since I just made up that rule! It doesn’t hurt to change the rules a little bit every now and then, right? Hopefully the creator of National Strawberry Sundae Day doesn’t get upset with me changing up the rules just a tiny bit, no need for them to know actually. We will keep it among ourselves, won’t we kind readers? 😉 I love strawberries, so does Autumn of course but we also love all flavors when it comes to having a sundae…Well, because ice cream just is awesome to the both of us Twinnies! 🙂

If you don’t like strawberries, please do feel free to share your personal own favorite and have a sundae of your choice! We won’t be spilling the news to the creator of this day after all! 😉 The other really good news about today, July 7th is that it is also Chocolate Day! How cool is that I ask you? I have a good feeling there will be many of us celebrating that fact alone! 🙂 Who doesn’t like chocolate? I sure am hoping the answer is nobody…Come on, what’s there not to just simply love about chocolate in any shape, flavor or form? I think I will be having a strawberry sundae to celebrate the day and why not have some chocolate, too…It’s a day to indulge in my own humble opinion! 🙂 What do you know, Autumn says she is in complete agreement with this idea, Yay! She thinks we could have a scoop of chocolate ice cream on the side maybe, I love Autumn’s way of thinking! 🙂

Do we Twinnies know how to celebrate this day or what? Is anyone with us? Time to tell us all about it kind readers…Please do share! Strawberry Sundae Day and Chocolate Day all on the same day, Wow but those possibilities are just endless! 🙂 Let’s just all do see fit to celebrate in style and have fun, enjoy the day and don’t be left out for goodness sake! 😉 🙂

Shopping and Driving Among Fools

I know, what a title isn’t it? It’s what today was like being out and about in our little town. Autumn and I  had a few things to pick up here and there. Oh my goodness, for a Wednesday the stores and the whole town seemed to be out shopping. I must admit it kind of made for some hearty laughing among us Twinnies! We seriously did some major laughing at the first stop, we just couldn’t help ourselves either.

Running into the local grocery store for a few things, what did we see? Well, the Easter candy being kind of fought over was a sight to behold. People are something else, aren’t they…Fighting over Easter candy. The husband and wife were not in agreement over the things going into their kids Easter baskets, the wife tugging the chocolate eggs and bunnies away from her husband! Hmm..The husband seemed to put up a good argument, but the wife was clearly winning. Anyway, Autumn and I ducked into the next aisle laughing like crazy. Sorry, we don’t know what the outcome was but we both were betting on the wife. That was the first example of shopping among fools, we saw a couple more and I will be happy to report so never fear. 😉

Next stop for us was the local drugstore for a couple of things, nothing Easter related for us. But… Oh no, a fight over Easter Baskets that had been marked down! Two ladies almost coming to blows over an Easter basket?! They were both wanting this certain one it seemed! Autumn and I had wandered down the parallel aisle and couldn’t help seeing this sight. We Twinnies also had a chuckle over pondering about the poor stuffed animals fate. Well, sorry to say…We headed off to the car before we could witness anymore Easter merchandise pillage! It really is somewhat pitiful to see such behavior, the holidays really can bring out the worst in people.

In driving around it was clear to see people were also forgetting their manners about being courteous drivers. Lots of hand gestures were in bloom as well…And no, they weren’t waving! 😉 It was clear, we were driving among fools, too! The last stop was a small speciality store, we Twinnies were picking up our favorite ice cream. I confess, it’s a guilty pleasure but this place makes the total best chocolate malt ice cream. The place was opened early for the season and Yay we spotted our favorite ice cream, grabbed a pint and headed for the check out. Look out, the place was suddenly packed! Again, people were in a hurry and some shoving broke out…Some guy thought he should be next in line. OK, so this was rather tacky but thankfully the woman he shoved in front of us let him go ahead. She was quite gracious, avoiding a scene….Once again either the holidays bring out the worst in some and this was an example of the best in others.

We Twinnies headed out and escaped the maddening crowds, home safe and sound and eating our ice cream! 😉 🙂

Dad’s HomeMade Ice Cream~ BY Gabby Angel

I was having a scoop of my favorite ice cream tonight, it was good. I do love ice cream and do indulgence from time to time. But, what I was remembering was Dad’s homemade ice cream. Oh my, no brand has ever come close to how good Dad’s was.He started making this delicious ice cream when Autumn and I were so young. We kind of grew up with this, so all other brands did kind of pale in comparison.
Of course we had store bought ice cream, too. Dad just couldn’t be making it all the time! Dad really did have a magic touch with home made ice cream though, he experimented with so many different flavors. They were all outstanding, I remember one time in early fall he made pumpkin. That was one of my favorites, I still search for a pumpkin flavored that comes close, I have again found one that comes close!
Chocolate, vanilla and strawberry, yes Dad made those. Sticking with the basics at first, but he was quickly branching out since everyone had an idea of what might be tasty. Back in the early days, it was so much fun taking turns cranking the handle on the ice cream maker. It was kind of an adventure all by itself, or maybe it was just Dad making it exciting and an adventure somehow! I was thinking of how it was just Autumn and I when we started, then all the little sisters came along to share in the fun.
Dad along with Mom really did come up with such awesome happenings when I really think about it. We were all quite blessed having them as parents, I do need to say. One of Autumn’s and my favorites was chocolate malt, it still is actually. We did find one brand in our area that is pretty good! What an excuse for taste testing ice cream, trying to find one as good as Dad’s homemade! Mom had a couple flavors she remembers fondly, chocolate mint was one and a peach one. Of course you can buy these two flavors, but I swear Dad’s were still the best!
We were talking about this and it is funny when we reflect on the many different flavors  Dad made. We used to tease him from time to time that he should market his ice cream, obviously he never did. That would have been a pretty cool family business though, wouldn’t it?
So many childhood things were so special at our house, I am sure any of you reading this can remember your own, I sure do hope so. As I always seem to be saying, aren’t family memories so nice and comforting, too? But they are, they are some of  the best times of our lives. For Autumn, my sisters and I anyway. I hope the same goes for all of you reading this one, too.
Hopefully this all made you smile and perhaps sent you racing to your freezers or favorite ice cream store as well. Let me know please! 😉 🙂

Just Desserts~Written by Gabrielle Angel

I actually was indulging in a small piece of cheesecake with Autumn earlier today. Thinking we both needed a treat I bought us individual slices of pumpkin cheesecake and headed to her house. We both love it, why didn’t I buy a whole cheescake? Very simple, we would be tempted to eat a much larger piece! 😉 That would mean  lots more of exercise time, so I spared us.

Anyway, we got to chatting about desserts in general. Autumn thought it a grand idea for me to write a blog about desserts. I just wrote a blog about pasta recently, am I talking about foods too much perhaps? The pumpkin cheescake is seasonal in our area, yay! Autumn and I both love cheesecakes of all or any variety. Who is with us on this one? I don’t off hand know anyone who doesn’t love cheescake!

Being health conscious, I should say we favor fresh fruit! 😉 Of course I can’t lie, of course we both do love fresh fruit. But to be honest, don’t all of us just like a good dessert?

One of our Dad’s favorite was cream puffs and Mom made these homemade. So many different pies were also a family favorite in our home and brownies(topped with ice cream sometimes). Mom would also make homemade doughnuts, Dad would help her sometimes with those. That leads me to an Italian dessert strufoli, a deep fried dough which was later covered in powdered sugar or honey.

My husband Dave loved apple dumplings and so many other desserts. So not fair, he was tall and thin and could eat whatever he pleased. I know ice cream was Craig’s (Autumn’s late fiance) and eclairs was another.

Autumn and I were chatting about a very minor and few people who didn’t like desserts or sweets. How can people not like chocolate? We actually do know of a couple people who don’t like chocolate…Personally we think there’s something wrong with them! 😉 That is said and meant as our humble opinions only. Everyone is entitled to their own likes and dislikes of course…Of course they are. Anyone reading this care to let us twinnies know if you really don’t like chocolate? We promise not to tease you!

That reminds me of chocolate chip cookies, I believe they have got to be a #1 favorite cookie. I would make a batch a week for my husband Dave, then restrain myself from helping him eat them.

Anyone reading this care to share their favorite dessert with Autumn and I? Also, am I making anyone hungry? 😉 I almost forgot, our Dad also loved Boston Cream Pie and Mom would make that homemade, too. Our parents liked to take a walk each evening together. Dad used to joke about the walk was meant to help burn off those “just desserts” calories. 🙂

Dad really did have a wonderful sense of humor, Autumn and I sure do miss him and his awesome sense of humor. If dessert is being had in Heaven, well then Dad, Dave and Craig are all indulging big time…That makes Autumn and I both have a little laugh. I guess a little laugh should always be served up with “just desserts”…That makes it all that much sweeter! 🙂
