Crushing Candy Canes… ~ by Gabby Angel

The title doesn’t do this one justice! I think you had to be there to get the entire picture. We are on the the last week before Christmas, only a matter of days to go now. It is now crunch time for some and things have gotten a bit ugly. For some this means, bad tempers are showing because the stress they are bringing on themselves. Christmas should be a time of joy, not everyone going crazy!

Also, some of the kids are being affected, which does make me sad. I unfortunately witnessed one of these incidents for myself. Earlier today I went out to pick up a couple things from the local little market. Sounds so easy, doesn’t it? It should have been,  the market wasn’t crowded and I grabbed a shopping basket. I thought I heard a small commotion going on, but didn’t think much of it.

It is a very small local market here in my small town, kids live here after all. Hoping things would calm down, that maybe I wouldn’t be heading down that aisle. I really am naive, trouble seems to find me and I always seem to get involved. Autumn wasn’t with me, so it wasn’t a twin incident…But I sure do wish she had been with me.

I wandered over and picked up a small bag of oranges and on to the candy aisle for some candy canes. That’s when I realized where the commotion was taking place. Oh no, my nice neighbor and 2 of her young kids…They are good kids so I was stunned by what I saw. The usually well behaved little girl and boy were literally stomping on candy canes, while their poor Mom was trying to settle them down. I did help her get them under control, the store owner also appeared and he looked as surprised as me. The Mom went on to explain how stressed she was and trying to get everything done for the holiday, etc. The kids were overly wound up…Yeah, we kind of noticed! Anyway, it all worked out and by the time I got home I knew I would write this.

I know it usually gets wilder than usual this time of year, too and nothing should surprise me. It would be nice though if everyone could just relax and enjoy the season. I for one will not be venturing (I hope) into another store the rest of the week!

    • They are nice kids, but Christmas has them all stirred up! 🙂 It was no problem to help their Mom and the kids.Them being neighbors and all, they didn’t want to act up too much in front of me. After all, I could report to Santa their bad behavior. 😉 TF <3=Twins Forever

  1. My mom would have beat some sense into us kids if we had of pulled such nonsense. As I if my children behaved in this manner. I understand everyone has their own ideas of parenting but it bothers me when I can’t shop without children running around the stores out of control and the parents allowing it. Happened to me last night at the “W” store. Frustrating….

    • Thanks for your input Lori, I know everyone has different ways of parenting. Sounds like you had a rough time of it at the “W” store, I can imagine it was frustrating! I’m staying out of stores until after Christmas, if I can. 🙂

    • I agree with you totally! Under-parenting is a big problem. These people who’d rather talk on their cell phone than pay attention to their children. I think it’s sad for the kids, but why should people who are minding their own business pay the price? One of these days, my anger management issues are going to rise to the surface and I’m going to tell some negligent parent off!

  2. I remember getting depressed every Christmas when I was a child. My parents would argue more and my mom especially would fall into a depressed state. Anyway, I read your Gravatar and was really impressed. I’m a big fan of John Lennon too and Imagine is one of my favorite songs in the whole world. I have a sister who is only 13 months older than me and we were raised as twins because I was big for my age. Our mom would make us matching outfits, sailor suits, etc. We were adorable! Af first I thought your post was about a recipe involving crushed candy canes. LOL!

    • That is sad you got depressed every Christmas as a child. My twin sister Autumn and I were very blessed with a Dad and Mom who were the best. We didn’t have a lot of arguing in our family, except between sisters…We had 4 more after us! Yay, about John Lennon…He really is my favorite musician of all time. Imagine is a beautiful song, my late husband Dave (I lost him to cancer 8 years ago) was a musician and played a lot of John L. songs in his band. That is the coolest you and your sister were raised as twins, sounds very adorable. 🙂 Matching sailor suits and outfits, hopefully you and your sister are still close. LOL about you thinking my post was about a recipe…It does kind of sound like it could be. 🙂 I will have to go visit your blog Russell, thanks so much for stopping by! 🙂
